If paper ephemera and old photos could talk!
Collage work usually starts with a collection of mixed paper. Of course, my drawers are filled with vintage materials, and generally create the first layers of my own collages.
I live in the small coastal town of Long Beach, Washington. Many of us are transplants, but the history of our fishing, crabbing, and clamming industry does not escape us. From the light houses that stand at the mouth of the Columbia River, to the scow boats that still serve on the clam beds at Willapa Bay, the whole community takes pride in its rich history. Replicas of old postcards were the focal point of some of these works.
Collage has a much broader range of exploration, such as starting with fabric as the canvas or adding color to wood substrates.
